Erika's Physical Poetry "Inside the Wave" at IWC

IWC TRANSPORTS GUESTS INTO AN UNDERWATER WORLD FEATURING A UNIQUE PERFORMANCE FROM CIRQUE DU SOLEIL

To mark the launch of the new Aquatimer collection, IWC Schaffhausen and around 800 guests from all over the world gathered at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) for a very special kind of evening.

Representing fragility in the show storyline narrated by Ewan McGregor, Erika Lemay was part of a special cast of Cirque du Soleil artists, performing her solo hand balancing on high canes surrounded by water fountains and accompanied by live musicians of Cirque.

IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME WITH EWAN MCGREGOR

Meanwhile, Ewan McGregor and the artists of Cirque du Soleil put on a virtuoso performance in their search for lost time. Fabian Cancellara, one of the world’s most successful racing cyclists, and Alexei Nemov, Russian ex-gymnast, four-time Olympic Gold winner and five-time world champion teamed up to assist the acrobats on the aerial silks, symbolizing their journey to the Galapagos Islands. Roger Hodgson, legendary Supertramp frontman, performed his most popular hits “Dreamer”, “Give a Little Bit” and “Breakfast in America”. The Cirque du Soleil artists and all protagonists got together for a rendition of “It’s Raining Again” and the grand finale on stage, before Georges Kern handed over to DJ Jack E from Saint-Tropez, who kept the music coming.

The Swiss luxury watch manufacturer transported its Friends of the Brand, including Kevin Spacey, Marc Forster, Susan Sarandon, Melanie Laurent, Ewan McGregor, Luís Figo, Fabian Cancellara, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Karolina Kurkova and Adriana Lima, to a unique setting that simulated the world both above and below the ocean surface. The highlight of the evening was a performance designed especially for IWC by Cirque du Soleil, whose artists examined the mysteries of time with musical interludes provided by former Supertramp vocalist Roger Hodgson.

“Time may be a gift, but it is a priceless one.” With these words, Hollywood star Ewan McGregor opened IWC’s “Inside the Wave” gala evening, on the occasion of the SIHH watch salon. The long-time Friend of the Brand had flown to Geneva for his role as narrator. “Time is a treasure. And as with everything we hold dear, it is a question not of how much we have, but of how we manage it.” For an enchanted evening packed with poetry, breathtaking acrobatics and dynamic dance theatre, the Hollywood star narrated a story staged by Cirque du Soleil artists. The concept, which was written especially for IWC, was about time that has been stolen and is finally rediscovered just off the Galapagos Islands.

IWC Schaffhausen feels a very close commitment to the archipelago. And the diver’s watches in the new 2014 Aquatimer collection are completely in their element in this natural paradise. “The evolution of this distinctly masculine, dynamic and professional sports watch line, with a tradition going back to 1967, continues with a wealth of innovative new features,” explained Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen. “As a successful company, we take our social responsibilities very seriously. We therefore decided to help preserve the unique biodiversity of species found in the Galapagos Islands. For this reason, we actively support the research work of the Charles Darwin Foundation, whose Research Station celebrates its 50th anniversary this very day.”
